Default Cannon IP4200 - 08-10-2006 , 12:07 PM

Can ink tanks be refilled on Cannon IP4200. I know they have contacts
to show the ink status but will it print with refills.

Near as we are currently aware, it will print even if the ink is "low".
I make sure to say near as we are aware because there is always the
off chance that canon might make changes to the rom and not permit
this. I can only speak about the ip5200 with v1.00 roms personaly, but
NO issue.

Yes it will print, but you will get several warnings followed by a message that
says the printer will record the use of refilled cartridges followed by the ink
level indicators being disabled. But yes it will print.

So far, I have refilled the large black tank and have experienced no
problems.

Even if you did (which you won't), it wouldn't make any difference. The
money you saved on the first refill more than paid for the true cost of the
printer, since a new one in a sealed box costs around $80 or so. The ink
tanks alone would have cost you at least $70, so the actual cost of a brand
new iP4200 is only $10.00 or less.

It takes time
Given that the printer runs about $80 on sale, and given that ink is
$70 or so plus tax, on a good day, if your printer explodes as a result
of using this ink and you printed nothing, you lost less than $10.00,
but the fact that as you say it takes time means that you *WILL* save
enough money even if it does shorten the life of the printer, which is
something you have not been able to prove.

The warranty is only for a year. I've been refilling for almost two
years. No problems to speak of. Has Measekite ever specified how much
time? 5 years, 10 years? Isn't that way past the average lifespan of a
printer anyway? So who cares? He's really just telling you the obvious:
that all printers eventually die .... it takes time.
