Canon MP390 won't feed paper -

Had my MP390 for a year and a half or so and it's worked great for what
I use it for (rarely copying, faxing a few times a week, light
printing). Had no problems until last week, when, instead of feeding
paper, it started making a loud clicking noise and wouldn't feed. When
I lifted the lid, the print cartridge would just stay where it is and
not feed towards the middle per usual. The logical guess is something's
jammed or a little plastic gear is hosed, but I can't seem to diagnose
it.
So, a few questions--one, any thoughts on a fix?
Two, if I were to be the kind of person who started disassembling a
printer without any experience or knowledge and, say, wound up
disconnecting the ribbon connecting the control panel to the printer
body at the printer side (not at the panel, no, that would be too easy)
and needed to get the right side of the printer cover off in order to
try to reattach it, exactly how would one get the @#$@#!!!! cover off.
Not that I'm dumb enough to do that sort of thing. Probably.
At any rate, just thought I'd throw out a request for help. Any advice
you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
