Default Could Use A Cam Check Please :) - 12-31-2005 , 03:07 PM

Hi everyone:

Just upgraded my webcam from my old Micro Webcam (which I've now
relegated to archiving purposes only) to a BRAND SPANKIN NEW Logitech
QuickCam Communicate STX with integrated microphone.

That's not my problem though.

My problem (if I even have one) is that I'm seemingly having troubles
updating the HTML code that's generated by WebcamXP, the software
program I'm using for my cam stream. I had to do this because the IP
has since changed and now NEITHER ONE of my browsers (IE nor Firefox)
will read the code properly (I also have Opera and AOL Explorer, but
haven't tried either of those). I also tried the new IE-based Avant
Browser, but it can't read it either.

So if someone could check my cam stream and report back here, it
certainly would be appreciated. The one thing I ask is that you include
in your report something I either said (The stream is audio-capable) or
did (This tells me that someone ACTUALLY DID take a look at it and
didn't just simply hit reply and say "IT WORKS").

The cam URL is http://aspatsworldturns.blogspot.com/ . You'll have to
scroll down to the section that says MY WEBCAM (Click CONNECT To Hear
Audio), but you'll see the Java window start to load right below that
(The CONNECT button is right below the Java window).

Finally, real quick, since we're on the subject of integrated
microphones, just how good are those things when it comes to video
conferencing in applications such as Yahoo! IM, AIM, MSN/Windows
Messenger and (now) Skype? Do they like...."suck"? (I hope not).

Cheers for now & Happy New Year

Nothing's going to work until you modify the HTML to point to the IP the cam
is on.

YOU might still be able to access it, but the "outside world" won't. Well,
at least I couldn't, and I tried both links.

You mention webcamXP, For that I get (Loading java applet failed)

The other one points to "camerades" or something. (The camera is offline)

By the way? No offense, but your webpage layout stinks. If you hadn't
requested it, there's no way I would have scrolled THAT far down the page to
get to your cam.

I'd have never even known it was there if I was just casually surfing.

I *did* update the IP by having Webcam XP generate new HTML. This way I
was assured it would be done right.

Or so I thought....

The Camarades page is only my test page. I know the video works and I
have no router for my cable modem (doesn't require one). Though I will
test it to see if it will work on there.

If you could check the Camarades page once again, then I'll know for
sure what the issue *isn't*.

Obviously you haven't heard of the concept of BLOGGING, have you? In
case you (somehow) haven't), that is a Blog page you are looking at. I
*PURPOSELY* put the cam, the rings, and all that stuff in the side panel
because that's where it's supposed to go. Unfortunately, IE and some
IE-clone browsers (and I think Opera too) all tend to drop it all the
way down to the bottom. Firefox does not do this.

There's also the issue of HTML and other code for things I've put in the
side panel done by other people. I can't control that.

But thanks for the comments.

Cheers for now & Happy New Year

Thanks! *Heheheh!* LOL! I'll make a note of it.

As for the Webcam XP code, somehow I don't think the Webcam XP client
HTML generator gave me correct code for some strange reason. Looks like
I'll copy and paste the source code from the local cam page and edit
that as needed.

I thought I'd NEVER hear myself say this to a "bum", but THANKS.

You too.

Glad ya got it sorted. Though I still think you should move the link
further up the page, unless you don't care if "outsiders" can see it. :-)

I've switched to a simple Windows Media-based application called
WebcamXP Beta 3 from Darkwet.net. Have just put the embedded player on
my podcast page (same place as before Bum). If someone could indicate
if they get video AND audio (my keyboard should make enough noise), it'd
be MUCHO appreciated.

I'd start a new thread on this given how old it is, but I asked myself
WHY?

EDIT: Along these same lines, I just tried WME and it wasn't the
resources hog that I thought it would be. I'm wondering what I have to
do to set up WME to handle this (Need SCREENSHOTS). It'd sure save me a
lot of time and effort (I can just simply remove and replace the HTML
code on my family-oriented blog whenever I'm doing my podcast and simply
state the video feed has been temporarily disabled but will return
shortly. That's no problem as long as one of the other pages has the
code I need).
