If this forum is to be of any use to anyone, clearly incorrect information
must be identified (and, ideally, corrected) in order to avoid misleading
both the OP and the future readers of the archives. If you just want polite
conversation, perhaps you should find a more amenable newsgroup.
(Good luck)

Agreed, there is however no reason to identify providers as 'Tards'. A
response of 'sorry, but that is not correct', is quite sufficient. I've
only been around this list for perhaps a year now, and some of the first
time's I attempted to answer a question were likely off base as well.
Had someone leaped in with a response like that, I would unsubscribed
immediately and sought out somewhere friendlier.

Well, it WAS a quite uncommonly inane attempt :-) I wonder what he
thought he meant?
Well, I'm glad to see your all in favor of such uncommonly crappy
insults. You must all really impress clients with that kind of reply to
their newbie questions.

If this kind of attitude was the norm, there would be no exchange of
knowledge, just a bunch of braggarts.

Ray. You're jumping to a conclusion. Don't think that's what he meant.

If you are looking for such a low light camera, you might want to
consider surveillance cameras. Most would also be designed to
provide a compatible AV interface for capture hardware.
"V" maybe, but fairly rarely "A".

Deep.

Pat... kettle.... black....

As noted in previous threads, you seem to be more interested in
fermenting argument than contributing by either asking or answering
questions.

I'm looking to buy a small video camera to use as a webcam and I'd
appreciate any advice as to good brands to go for. The
two things I need most are that is has got to be small, and it has got
to work well in low light. I already own a good USB
webcam
but I want to try an AV cam now but most of the AV cams I've tried are
crap in low light situations. It doesn't have to be a
video recorder camera, it doesn't have to be wireless and it doesn't
have to be portable. I know that some digital cameras also
double as webcams but they use USB and I want to use my AV capture
hardware. Thanks for any pointers.

I cant recommend one over the other but most still cameras have a AV
out. The abilities of the camera to record in low light dont
make any difference to the output to TV all you are seeing is what you
would see in the Viewfinder / monitor screen. I doubt
there will be any benefits in still over video or visa versa in this
case

if there's one thing that pisses me off its a response from a retard who
pretends to know something. Get a clue before you discuss
technical matters.

And the one thing that pissed me off is a boorish jerk who bashes people

Agreed. It is obvious the poster had no idea what he was talking about.
But probably not necessary to take him so seriously as to make a stink
about it. He's just not a 'guru' yet.

The poster Knows that a F1.8 Lens will allow more light in then a F2.8
But the fact the camera can capture at iso 1600 will make no difference to
what can be seen on a monitor when using the camera as a Webcam.
I was also thinking that the OP did not want to spend a fortune.
So if all you want to see is what's on the lcd at the back of the camera but
on a remote monitor. What make and model does the team recommend.

There you are, Ray. That's TWO of us Tony doesn't like. Shall we
print t-shirts? :-)

He can't mean me. I was playing "voice of reason" this time.

I suppose...summer IS coming up...

Apparently, since I don't find it helpful to blast every one who might
not give accurate information with high school insult, I'm
obstructionist. I felt the post clearly DID warrant argument. Perhaps
however I should have demanded a collection of test scores in order to
justify the disparaging remarks regarding the posters intelligence level.

Argument, thats funny. And that coming from people who regularly engage
in three week discussions over the exact number of pixies who can fit
onto the head of a pin. Still, one usually does not expect a crowd to
raise up and shout 'How dare you object to our sophomoric name calling!'
Ironic that one of the defenders was upholding the righteous rudeness by
pointing out that I was in fact something less than Emily Post in my own
rebuttal!
